A few years ago, at which time I kept my face clean-shaven, I realized my hair (which until then I'd kept around medium-length) was thinning on top. I decided it was time for a new approach. I started getting a my hair clippered short (4 on top, 2 on sides) and grew a short, full beard. (I usually trim it with a 7mm attachment, and then the shortest guard below the jaw)
It seemed like a big deal at the time, but now I'm used to it. Not super-excited about starting to lose my hair, but, well, you work with what you've got.
I have not shaved since ~ 2001, might have bled over into early 2002. I kept it short-ish for the first couple of years but have been growing it to terminal length (6~8"?) more or less since 2006. I'll cut it back a couple inches every now and then when it irritates me, and I Trim the whole thing monthly.
The reason? I hate shaving. Hate it... no really, HATE shaving. I'm lazy, I want the best look for the least effort. I've been balding since my early 20's and clipping my head hair short since then, it's a minute or two extra to trim a beard as well. Yes, I could go shorter than I do with no functional change so there's a little personal reason to leave it longer, I like the way it looks, my wife likes the way it looks... why not leave it long? Heck, I've had professional photographers ask if they could take my portrait because they liked the look I manage.
I'm also no fan of the pre-pubescent look, especially on myself. Bald head and shaven face looks awful.
I’m Bald by choice, and about 98% of the time, completely clean-shaven. Exception, the occasional weekend when I’m mostly working around the house or in the yard, though I will “go out” for whatever reason without shaving on those occasions. And when out camping, I seldom shave.
I don't like beards, as they are itchy. And my beard would be gray, whereas my hair isn't there yet, so it would make me look older. Also, after a lifetime of wearing a uniform (military and LE), I'm just used to being clean shaven. Now I go a few days in between shaves, but I don't get to the point where it's scruffy.
Mustache and goatee, kept a little less than medium growth. Shave on #2 with my hair being #3. Trim facial hair every other day, unless work requires daily.
I have had it all clean for years, shaving every morning. Then I tried a 'stash and the goatie followed shortly.
I have grown a beard for all of 6 months. Never do it again. Had to shave to a #2 every week, and outlining the beard was a pain. Daddy looks and feels like a wolf was all I had to hear to shave it off.
And that infomous unshaven look just looks too dirty for me. I feel lazy and unshowered in that look. Not everyone can be a gq model!
By the way, those were that days where you can say "the man with beard", and be easily identified.not so any more.
