I was told a story way back in the 80's by some of my parents' friends....the men were out at a bar and asked the women if they were stress testing Levi jeans? From what I remember, the women didn't take too kindly to that. It's always stuck in my mind....
I've always been quite aware of my muffin top and I always marvel at the kids today who show off proudly their muffin top. I do like the term "mushroom" look...I bet we could come up with some good ones. Anyway, I don't know whether to be proud that women are owning who they are and are not being ashamed OR if I should feel sorry that their stomachs are as big as profiteroles?
Makes me want to buy a BeachBody product though...
Those aren't skinny jeans. The muffin top is because they're low rise jeans and, yeah, she could probably stand to go up a size or maybe two.
Yup! One thing to note. Virtually anyone can wear skinny jeans. In the right size and rise (with the right top).
But somehow, people got confused about how their pants should fit. No one should actually have extreme muffin top or mushroom top -- if you pick the right size.
It's not even the muffin top that bothers me so much since it can happen to thinner people too depending on the cut of the pants, but why show it off with short tops?
One reason I can think of is that it's nearly impossible to find something in the stores that aren't "on trend". I don't want low cut skinney jeans because I don't have the body for them, but try finding something that DOES fit my body. Not an easy task.
about 90% of the time, muffin tops is caused by the pants and not the person wearing them.
It it possible to wear skinny jeans and not be "skinny" and not have muffin top. You just need to pick the right rise for your body shape (and the right top)
Some random images I found for a look that would work on most body types:

I see people stuffed into too-small clothing all the time. One of my co-workers commented the other day that young girls have no "size shame" any more. While I dont think size shame is a GOOD thing, I do think maybe so many have been told how beautiful they are from a very young age that they simply dont see that they perhaps should make better clothing decisions.
I wear skinny jeans, but only after checking the mirror front and back and sideways. I wear a size 6 and even I have to be sure that muffin top isnt present. But I agree with other posters, with the right top and the right size, skinny jeans can look GREAT on many figures.
I can't stand tight clothes. I usually end up wearing clothes that are too big. After my daughter was born I ended up with a not so flat stomach and I am always trying to wear tops that cover it. My problem with pants is that if they fit in the waist they are too big in the hips and legs. I would rather be comfortable in the waist and big everywhere else than look like a stuffed sausage.
I would never leave the house with my parts showing..

I am not skinny, and I bust out my skinny jeans all the time. In the right size, with the right fitting top of course. And if I am having a not so skinny day, and there is a bit of muffin top? A baggier or boxier shirt does wonders.
2 people in the pic have muffin top going on,and muffin tops can show even if you have a long top on,like the one to the left in black.
Wearing too tight pants can actually push your stomach up permanently.
My sister always wore too tight jeans that made her have a muffin top,she wore them so much that now had a permanent miffin top.
I think it is low rise jeans at play here not skinny ones. But heavy people do not look good in skinny jeans either unless they have slender legs. I blame a lot of it on the anti mom jeans movement...in reality many people look better with jeans that sit more on their natural waist. Very few people look good in low rise because they end just about where the tummy pouches out and the hip fat pads bulge creating a muffin top.

Yes, I have my fashion terms mixed up. (I'm a guy and I buy all my fashion jeans at Tractor supply.....) It just really got to me this weekend- The majority of the younger girls I saw at Wal-mart were looking just like the girl in the picture posted in the OP.
