Thanks for all good input! My preference would be to wear the classic black dress just above the knee with dressy high heels and a shawl or wrap of some typeof some type but can't do the heels due to foot problems!
I can't do heels either, but I can do Jambu. They look like a heel, but it's actually an all-over platform that keeps your foot flat. If they make your size, they might work for you even if nothing else does (they are a similar fit to Dansko).
I see blingy stuff all the time on women. Instead of the corny motifs we used to see in holiday apparel, I see cold and/or silver or sequins on sweaters and tees.
For a party, I'd buy a really nice black dress, tall boots, a beautiful vintage rhinestone pin and expensive pearl or diamond earrings. Get yourself a killer haircut a few days before, and go have fun.
As for the daytime bling question~~full disclosure--I am sitting at work right now wearing a sapphire blue sweater which has just a small amount of small rhinestones sprinkled around the neck. So either I'm ok ... Or the fashion police may arrive on the scene any moment now to declare a serious fashion faux pas!
Sounds perfect!!! I'm all for a little bling to get me through the day.
