I will check out your suggestions - thanks for taking the time.

I lived for a short time near you, and you're right about the summertime temps! My office was air conditioned, so I would always top off a T-shirt or even a dressy tank top with a light weight jacket indoors, then take it off as I walked to the car. (The jacket!). Do you still have the Prime Outlet stores there. I used to find nice stuff at Dress Barn for good prices. Even now in a cooler climate, I fancy long skirts with a casual short sleeved top for summer; or, a simple knee-length dress with flats or low heels. I am no longer "spring chicken", and like stuff from Appleseeds, Tog Shop, and the like.

Yes! There is Dress Barn at the Outlets Since you know of the heat/humidity - would capri leggings with a gauzy collar big shirt (belted or not) with great earrings and a statement hairdo look "fashion forward?"
Thanks for the local know how!

Skorts always look dated. That's why I'd advocate a skirt in lieu of shorts. You can do a knee length one at any age.

What kind of "top heavy" are you. Lots of waist definition or little waist definition? (Makes a difference on the recommendations for tops) Also, are your shoulders narrower or wider or the same width of your hips?

Curvier in the waist:
Narciso Rodriguez for DesigNation Floral Shirred Top

http://www.kohls.com/product/prd-129...eplum-top.jsp*

*I have the fall version of this top....it is on trend, but easy to wear for all ages. I wear it to work all the time. Looks polished, feels like a t-shirt.

Straighter in the waist:
Simply Vera Vera Wang Floral Asymmetrical Tee

LC Lauren Conrad Dot Pleated Top
Simply Vera Vera Wang Plaid Tunic
Simply Vera Vera Wang Dot Chiffon Blouse
Simply Vera Vera Wang Animal Chiffon Blouse

As for brands? Try Alfani at Macy's. Vera Wang and Apt. 9 at Kohls. Merona at Target. Metaphor at Sears. Worthington at Penney's.

True that.
Sorry you can't order from this catalog, ( it's European) but may be it'll give you some ideas?
( The "mature young women" can find plenty here I think...)

You're very welcome.

See, I love the idea of capris with a big shirt. It screams comfort to me, yet, it is most appropriate for the work environment you described.

A hint: On Fridays, I tried to wear something with an elastic waist so when I hit the Town Dock in St. Michael's for dinner, I could indulge a little.

Edited to add: I find some great pieces at serengeticatalog.com

Will check out that catalog! And I have been finding some great "big shirts" that I could see wearing as almost a jacket with a tank underneath - the shirt could work in the A/c - the tank in the car with the top down on the way home over the Bay Bridge.
Thanks for all your replies - too bad they don't have a catalog named "Forever Fun Fashion" instead of the frumpy looking "age appropriate" clothes they show at the store.
