I have to attend a "dressy" dinner in Phoenix on the 20th. I have no idea where I am going so I am not sure what to wear since I've never been to Arizona. I am a female over 40 if that helps. Thanks!

I suggest you go to Macys and ask for help, they will know what kind of dress may be acceptable for the occasion...

Can you tell us more about the event? Did it include suggested attire? Cocktail, evening, formal?

Its been cold out in AZ lately so bring coats and gloves. Phoenix is a tad warmer than where I live but ya I can at least offer that advice.

Is this a wedding or professional or personal event? By "dressy" do you mean black tie or business professional or cocktail?

You can't go wrong with suit set and heels. You can bring some fancy jewelry to spice things up a bit or a sparkle top under the jacket. (My mom is almost 43 and wears tops with a hint of glitter/sparkle so you are not too old! Work it!)

1) Call whoever organizes the dressy dinner and ask about attire. If you have friends who also attend, ask them as well.
2) If you attend alone, keep it simpler.
3) Arizona is quite warm, but its still winter. So you'll need a light jacket that will match your dress.
4) It depends on the social class of the guests. If Brad and Angelina are there, try Neiman Marcus - you'll probably need a second mortgage. Otherwise, there are many department stores that will match your budget, taste and needs.

1. Is the dress semi-formal? (JC Penney has some great options for conservative, more-dressy dresses now; you don't have to go to an upscale department store to get that) An example of a semi formal dress would be a a nice fitting, long sleeved sheath dress. Since it's winter, I would choose a richer color like burgundy, midnight blue or maybe even dove gray in a fabric like ponte, crepe or jersey, with nice earrings and pendant or necklace.

2. Is an civic or professional organization putting on the event, or is something like an engagement party/dinner?

3. If you will be attending a "gala" make sure and add bit of festive sparkle to your outfit.

Hope this helps.
