This is a partial list of retailers in the US that source clothes from the Bangladesh factories where 228 workers died yesterday in an eight-story building collapse:

Walmart
Children's Palace
Dress Barn
Cato
Joe Fresh (JC Penney's)

Most of those who died were women, and others remain missing and presumed trapped in the rubble.

Cheap fashion has a high price.

Now there are over 300 people dead in that building collapse. Just because one doesn't shop from those mentioned stores doesn't mean their clothes aren't manufactured in similarly dangerous locations across the world. I really wish it was easy to buy American made clothing or clothing made by workers that have good conditions in other countries.

This is true. But if you look at mainstream clothing lines of clothing, they're made in Italy, UK, America, and other western countries. It's not until you go to mass-produced low-end value lines that you see third world nations as the manufacturer.

These are not slave labor camps. FYI if the companies were not there the people would find something else to do to earn a living that most likely put their lives in greater peril. Did any of you care for the welfare of people in Bangladesh before a building collapsed. How often do you send the poor money in Bangladesh.

Take a look around. Everthing you use comes from somewhere that might offend your sensibilities.

By all means it's your dollar to shop where you please. Just understand the actual realities along with your high mindedness.

I've worn Levi's 501 button fly's my whole life since I could afford to buy my own clothes (like 12 years old). They closed the San Francisco plant about 10 years ago, and are now made overseas. I used to wear ponies on my shirt until everyone had them, and switched to Carhartt. Carhartt moved shirts to a 3rd world country, and recently changed cotton quality. I bought up all the old stock I could find.

Wall Street doesn't give us much choice anymore, and I can't bring myself to paying over $100 a shirt for Filson. Off soapbox!

You can still get Levis 501 made in the USa. They're made in Delaware; I think. Affordable, too.
