You can add in foundation to your sunscreen as well. I use SPF 15 for my daily sunscreen (and I have a much lower likelihood of burning than you fair skinned people). But I did find an excellent SPF 50 face cream that amazingly didn't turn me ashy: loreal sublime sun for face. It is water/sweat resistant too. It absorbs fast too.
Sunscreen is good before you going out in the sun, it makes your skin not effected by burning.so apply it before make up, and make your skin more smooth and stay away from burning in this hot summer.
I have always worn foundation that contains sunscreen of at least 15-24 spf. I will apply that to my entire face and a separate sunscreen on my neck. All my face moisturizers also contain sunscreen, and I sometimes just use that on face/neck - no foundation. If I will be in extreme sun, I'll use a 30+spf on my face/neck - no foundation/makeup. I've never applied both sunscreen and foundation to the same area. I wear sunglasses whenever I'm in the sun (and often a hat as well). I avoid the sun on my face as much as possible - which is why, I think, my skin looks so good for my age.
