I have 11 tattoos and my ears pierced. Ears as a child and at one point I had my tongue and navel but they closed and I didn't bother re-doing them. I intend to get more tattoos and consider them jewelry I won't lose. I don't wear watches, necklaces, bracelets, etc and don't like things hanging off me.
The poll results are interesting so far. A lot more people without anything than I would expect. Which makes me feel like less of an oddball. If this poll were for Toronto or London, I'm pretty sure the results would be different.
Yeah, I was just referring to the stereotypical image of a big burly biker type......
I too have an "engineer" type job so it works out that I can cover my tat. Course having the long hair in a ponytail and the goatee still stereotypes me, but that's OK, I can usually convert people over with my actual job performance.
I've had so many people ask me how I could possibly find a job considering the tattoo I have on my left arm goes almost onto my hand. So far, it hasn't been a problem whatsoever because my job performance speaks for itself. I know people stereotype me right off the bat based on the tattoos and my body shape, but that's their problem not mine

Maybe...though I live in Boston and I rarely see people with visible tattoos, or anything other than simple ear piercings. When I lived in CA I was one of the only ones I knew with a tattoo. I don't think they're as common as you think...it's just that you notice them more quickly.

Oh no, I used to think most people didn't. Then I've seen the topic come up in workplaces with everyone in business suits and I'm the only one that doesn't have anything. The same thing has happened at parties and even waiting outside the kindergarten door for my daughter to come out. It seems to be the 45+ crowd that didn't have all the tattoo's and piercings. And me. Just because you can't see them, doesn't mean they don't have them.

I think it's become a lot more mainstream. So even though people our age (I believe we're the same age, I swear I saw it somewhere) have them, they're also getting them at an older age (for example, my brother has 4 now, but got them all within the last few years - he's older than me). Versus, I got my first one when I was 24.
At work, when we have our annual picnic, people have freaked out that I have tattoos. LOL. And they're not even full sleeves, like yours. They "never thought I'd be the type". But then again, who is the type?
(btw, my next one is going to be my first large piece, I hope I can make it through to the end)
I think I have seen more piercings (especially naval for women) in the past 20 years than tattoos. Interesting though how things have changed and so has perceptions of piercings and tattoos.
The turn offs thread has me thinking about this. Am I the only person left without tattoo's and piercings?
I get turned off when people use apostrophes for non-possessive plural nouns.
Oh! You mean tattoos. It really depends. If they are original and compliment the body well and are well-done, then yes, I love them. If they are cliche, distasteful or poorly done, not so much.
Also, I know this sounds shallow, but it also depends on the body shape of the woman. If she is in good shape, the tattoos are going to look MUCH better.
I have never seen a tattoo on a person that I thought was a good idea.
They're a huge turn off to me, but many, many people around here has them. Ugh.
