What do you use to waterproof your leather boots and leather jackets? Items are leather, not suede. I have not had to do this in quite some time; I am curious as to whether there is anything new and amazing that works really well. This is just in case I am caught in the rain. I have no plans to wade through streams, although a product that could effectively handle that would be impressive!

Not really "waterproofing" but I spray my leather boots with a weather protectant from Kenneth Cole.

Silicone spray works wonders, but be sure you get something that is formulated for leather. There are several oils, like neatsfoot oil and mink oil, that waterproof leather but they usually darken the color. Ask a cobbler or shoe store associate what is most popular.

That's interesting that the oils can darken the leather. I had no idea.

I have used neatsfoot oil for decades (used to live in New Irleans, home of the sudden downpour). Some very light leathers darken a bit. I tried a small spot on the instep to test. Wait a few hours to check.
