I have 1 pair for the gym. I have real, big boy shoes (boots, oxfords, loafers, boat shoes) for daily life.

guess what? I have real 'big boy' shoes too but there are plenty of times that nice sneakers are appropriate. I love various my leather and suede boots and oxfords for casual wear and my nice dress shoes for work or more formal occasions (allen edmonds being my preferred cost:quality brand) but I loathe loafers and boat shoes for casual settings. They do not mesh well with my style at all.

Put it this way: most times that someone is wearing something like boat shoes, a nice pair of sneakers are equally appropriate and work just as well for some people. If I'm wearing a pair of nice chinos and a button up out during the summer but don't feel like wearing oxfords, I reach for some classic chucks or another sneaker in place of the boat shoes that lots of other guys where. There is nothing wrong with that.

Keep in mind, I'm not talking about some sort of athletic shoe, but something like this:

I'll take a canvas oxford like that with chinos over a pair of boat shoes any day.

I've been debating on buying Stan Smith's for years. They look so good, but I just always opt for something else. I got my first pair of Rod Lavers about and 5 years ago. Even though I'm a Nike loyalist, Rod Lavers are probably my fair tennis shoes of all time.

I have two pairs, both Nike Air Cross-trainers. One is black and gray...the other is white and gray.

I usually am wearing boots or leather boat deck shoes.

Personal preference but either way they're both classics. I'm the opposite where I owned lavers before smiths. They didn't fit as well, and I prefer the full leather over the mesh.

They used to make leather Lavers. I wish they'd reissue those!

I own three pairs of footwear, all more than five years old:

1. Construction boots, to wear if walking beyond my apartment complex.

2. Rockport sneakers, to wear if going in a car to a place where there will be a little walking, like shopping.

3. Cheap sneakers with Velcro, to wear out the door within apartment complex, like to get mail or take out the trash. or visit neighbors. Maybe without socks.

Outdoor footwear never worn in the house, but put on as needed to go outdoors.
