I've enjoyed reading through this thread (yep, all 360 posts!). I've been reminded of some truly hideous names (and discovered that several people find the name "Karen" sexy ).

When I was in grad school I became involved with a Russian guy named Gary ... he'd come to the U.S. at the age of 13. He was "encouraged" to choose a more "American-sounding" name, which is how he ended up as Gary ... he chose it because it had the same number of letters as his original name AND two of the letters were the same.

His original name? IGOR.

I couldn't help it, I burst out laughing when he told me ... I just could not imagine saying "oh Igor" at a romantic moment.

I know an older gal by the name of Dione. I guessed the pronunciation as Dye'-own. Nope. It's Dee-on'-nay. And she has a really cool last name, but since it's an unusual first name I don't feel comfortable using her full name on the internet.

I could (if I was attracted to men), considering that I speak Russian.

I heard on the news this morning, children born in 2014 are predicted to have Biblical names, like Naomi.
