Has this happened to you before? Something that looks nice when you try it on in the store, and after not long, with only a few washes, all the nice color fades until it doesn't look like the thing you bought originally?
This is why I don't buy clothes at Target. They are programmed to self-destruct when you get them home. Sometimes, they can't wait and begin falling apart in the store.
Yep some of the stores in the mall that my daughter bought from when she was a teenager would do that and that is also why I dont buy Target clothes , and certain other stores as well .I used to buy all my clothes at Ross and they actually have sizes that fit tall women . I m moving soon and will have a Ross by me and I cannot wait .
I worked at a dry cleaner for several years and I generally have a very good idea of which clothes and fabrics will behave in the wash. The exception is denim and oxford cloth, sometimes you truly can't tell if it's going to get little holes in it until it's washed. None of the clothes I wash ever fade until they're a few years old. I sort my laundry into four groups...whites (to bleach), bright colors, dark colors, and black/dark blue. I don't ever use a laundry soap that says it has fabric brighteners in it, because that will fade clothes. I also don't use generic soap, and I never let a load of laundry sit wet for a couple hours, it has to go in the dryer right when the wash cycle stops.
A lot of times what you think of as fading in a bright color is actually picking up darker colors from other clothes in the wash load, especially from blue jeans.
My husband and my daughter get Target clothes sometimes and we haven't had any fading problems. I never buy Target clothes for myself because they seem to be made to fit long thin people, even their plus sizes, or in such odd shapes that they fit no one at all.
It has happened to the cheap cotton muscle tees I bought at Walmart. Initially they didn't look too bad, but quickly started fading and ruining over time. Thankfully I purchased it with the intent of using them as sleepwear on summer nights so nobody sees me wearing them. Bottom line, while buying cheap clothes, remember to check up on the quality of materials used as well.
The condition of the water you use to wash your clothes may play a part, too. I have a well, and before we put in a softener, the water was hard on clothes, particularly tees.

Wash clothes???? Send anything you want to keep longer than 3 months to the dry cleaners. The washing machine is only for underwear, t-shirts, socks, and towels.
Oh please... I have jeans, pants, tops, and gym clothes more than 3 YEARS old (not 3 months!) that are machine washed.
Bed linens and table linens too.
It is not necessary - and way too expensive! - to send everything but "underwear, t-shirts, socks, and towels" to the dry cleaners. Not to mention inconvenient.
