I don't own high heels; I don't wear them. I have wider feet than most women which only adds to the pain factor when wearing high heels. I can't even get my feet into most of the strappy, sexy kind, anyway.
I don't own any now. 90% of my shoes are Skechers biker style flats, a variety of colors and decorations with an athletic sole. I used to wear high heels and panty hose but gave that up in the 90's except for rare occasions. Now I'm living with metal in my ankle and knees/hips that sometimes "pop" when I walk so I have no problem nixing the heels in favor of comfort and safety!
The other 10% are flip flops and one pair of black leather shoes with a wedge heel, in case I have to dress up.
I never had more than a few pairs, and they were not really high. One was for a banquet. I was a hostess. After the ordeal of walking on the so much, I took them off, and carried them the rest of the night. I don't think I wore the others more than once.
I needed space and sorted all of them out. I donated them to a shop. I've never got more, and infact go for flats if possible. Lately its been boots with extra room for more socks so my feet don't hurt and they stay warm.
I keep an extra pair of boots around unworn just in case the 'style' ends up being with heals when I need a new pair.
I'm surprised no one even asked what the OP means by 'high heels.' For me I'd say 3 1/2 or higher.
I think I have a couple of pairs around (that haven't been worn in decades) that MIGHT be 3". I've worn flats for so long that, while 3" isn't "high" if I have a choice -- even if I LOVE the shoe -- I'll find something else I like that's lower. I might LOVE a 3" heel -- but I'll pick a shoe that I like, just not as much, just because the heel is lower.
My business go-to shoe is a pump. (Which I MIGHT wear once a year) And I have pumps at about 4 heel heights (bought over the years): 1 inch, 1 1/2, 2" and 2 1/2". I almost ALWAYS pick the 1 1/2 or 2" pump -- not the 2 1/2". 2 1/2 inches is about the highest shoe I'd ever even buy now, and that's only a maybe. 2" or lower is more likely.
Day to day I wear ONLY flat mules that I can slip into and out of.
I've discovered the way I walk is to roll my foot from the heel. I wear off the heals on all my shoes first. The shoes I've had with even an inch distinct (as in projecting) heal makes them very uncomfortable. They are ONLY worn when I have to.
Generally I like shoes or boots which are flats since with heels even being low my feet hurt and I don't wear them.
All I wear are flats. It cost 50K to put my leg back together when I broke it, I have no interest in ever wearing anything that will make me unsteady on my feet.
I do not own any. I do not wear any. I do not have any heels, 1 inch or more. I have never felt any pressure to wear any, EVER. I think the notion that I HAVE to wear any, ever, is ridiculous as hell. This is absurd to me, wow, really? You are effing joking. Says who? I am flabbergasted. No seriously, you are joking... right? Not a real woman? WOW I have really heard it all now!
I can't walk in them, they are horrible. They do nothing for me. No one gives 2 sh*** what I put on my feet. Makes no difference to anyone. I'm not going to torture myself.
