I tell you when I worked in an office setting I got all of my office attire at thrift stores , I kid you not they were just as nice as if you had bought them brand spanking new . I would try there first and then if all else fails try the ross stores if you have them and other dept stores such as Jc pennys ...I like pennys when they have their sales . take care and enjoy shopping .
Are you in an environment where you need to wear suits? Or is your office more business casual, are you in sales or dealing with the public a lot, or are you in a highly creative field? Business attire is different in all those areas, so it helps if we know what you mean by "business attire."
For example, I work in an office that doesn't allow jeans. The principals wear suits, the office workers (all women) wear nice blouses and trousers or skirts, and flats or low heels -- a safety issue, mostly, because we've got two fairly long, steep staircases in the office and everything you need is always on a different floor.
When working, I liked Talbots and then Talbots Woman (as I got fatter). You can find great NEW clothes on eBay, with the tags still on them. If you know what size you take in a particular brand, you can search for that brand and see what's available. I also like Land's End for blouses and sweaters. Again, I know the size I wear. If in doubt, you can go to a Sear's as they have a Land's End boutique in most of them - try stuff on and see what size fits you best.
I also shop thrift stores. There are several here run by the churches as Christian Coalition stores; many department stores donate left-overs or last season's items to them. New with tags attached. I bought a Talbots silk jacket, with tags, for $10 at one of them. I once saw literally about 100 boxes from Ikea with candlesticks and vases. I also look for nearly new stuff, from wealthy people, I guess. I am not above wearing second-hand stuff if I like it and it's a good deal.
I like Ann Taylor too. Also for slightly edgier stuff Vince Camuto (on clearance) I love the whole line. Michael Kors (the lower end one) can have great pieces too. Wait till it hits the clearance rack at Macys.
Banana Republic is good, but since the quality has gone downhill, only shop clearance. Same with J. Crew.
I like Nordstroms house brand Halogen as well. INC at Macy's can have good options too.
You would like Benneton. Not sure why they still have a Bay Area store, but you can get it online. It doesn't fit me, but they have lots of cool work basics. Also try Zara, great prices and they have a basics line.
Oh I forgot to mention the Limited! Nice suiting basics, and lots of sales.
I don't have to dress up too hard for work and my basic uniform is a blouse, pencil skirt, cardigan or dress and cardigan. I can also wear jeans. So I'll do that with a nicer too. But I can also wear more casual dresses too with no issue. I just dress them up with my cardigan and nicer shoes.
Ann Taylor, Brooks Brothers,Limited, Banana Republic. For good quality that'll last long time Brooks Bro (on sale). Their shirts last up to 10 years.
Everything else 1 or 2.
Oh and TJmax and Marshals
