I only wear them about twice a year--when I get to wear my tuxedo or my military mess dress. But when I do, it's always a real tie, not a clip on.

Because on some of them, like Joseph Gordon-Levitt, it does look cool.

If hipsters are wearing bow ties, then they are by definition, cool.

I think it's a southern thing, esp in the deep south. I grew up in WV which is southern and no one wore them but they seem to be big in southern SC.

Not only southern, as I'm from the north and have always worn bow ties. I find nothing wrong with them, nor have I ever gotten any negative feedback on mine, be they formal or casual.

To me the seem pretty nerdy and out dated but I guess they are making a come back, I guess some one some where esp down south for some reason considers them cool.

All ties are just pointless anyway so there is no "correct" tie to wear. They are just an adornment and, yes, bowties are cool on some people. Not you though.

It's part of hipster's fascination with Vintage... whether it be clothes, typewriters, shaving blades, facial hair. When Macklemore says "i'ma take your grandpa's style" he's speaking directly at Millenials and he's legitimizing that which is old & dorky is now cool & fresh.

dude, doctor who LITERALLY SAYS "bowties are cool". Repeatedly. With fervor. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPGTizdGwSc

Hipsters love dr. who. By adjunct, they love bowties.
