The real question is why women have to be smooth (in American society).

When I was a kid, "the times they were (still) a'chaingin'." Some American men were still okay with unshaven legs, but not underarms. Quite a few men didn't mind a bit of a mustache. All men were entranced by pubic hair--check out Playboy centerfolds into at least the late 70s.

When I was heavily into road cycling, I toyed with the idea of shaving my legs. My wife told me it would have a direct effect on our sex life. Our sex life was pretty good, and she wasn't smiling when she said it, so I dropped the idea.
Exactly how "long ago was this?"

Everything goes in cycles. For men there was a time when women LOVED a hairy chest on a man.....I had lots of women who loved the feel of it against their breasts when making love. Then the smooth shaved thing came out and I had women who wanted to play barber with my private parts ! A little trim ain't bad, but the 10 year old boy look isn't my cup of tea.

Same goes for women though, there was that time when hair down below was sexy, then came the totally shaved routine..........that was pretty cool for a while, but now I am leaning more toward a little hair down there and find that sexier than the little girl look. I had a French girl come into work one day and she was pretty hot. When she raised up her arm there was a little armpit hair there, and I have to admit, on her it wasn't bad.

Yep, everything goes in cycles.

I shave my underarm hair when its hot and humid outside because sticky rough armpit hair feels very uncomfortable in the summer . My deodorant does not effectively reach the surface of my skin. Sorry if its not manly, but I will do what feels best for my skin & body. For some reason, my chest hair is fine and smooth, so I have no issues there.

I'm not dead.

Liking a bit of hair on a woman's upper lip tended to be an ethnic thing--Mediterranean, mostly, as well as African-American.

FYI, I'm a woman and not okay with removal of chest hair. I mean, I'd be "okay" with it if someone chose to be (it's their choice, just like shaving my head would be mine), but I don't like the hairless look on men. Trimmed is OK, but hairless? Meh.

But so far from the women posters so far, you can see it is more aestheticly pleasing to women when we have hair.
Women don't generally shave/wax their thighs.

men arent supposed to have smooth shaven legs

men showing off legs and thighs is a feminine trait

im stopped at a light and seen a 'smooth leg' dude jogging down a major street wearing some daisy dukes and i almost threw up...

dude started jogging in place waiting on traffic and then did this weird stretch thing...everybody started looking at each other

I've only been with women who had hair on their privates. I find shaved **** too little girl looking and creeps me out. Probably why I don't watch much porn. I don't mind trimmed hell I trim. I shaved one time down there but since I have hair everywhere else it looked completely weird. Creeped me put so now I just truim it down.
The way I see it on women either shave all the time so its smooth or let the hair grow. If you have the prickly hairs I see having sex rubbing against the cactus legs a lot like what a woman must feel like kissing a guy with George Michael 90s stubble. I think the reason guys find women with body hair strange/unattractive is simply because they are used to shaved body parts.
