I use Dove Unscented for Sensitive Skin bar soap. Nothing else, not ever. I'd be better off washing with nothing but water than trying to use body wash or shampoo as my skin is allergic to pretty much any product that contains dyes or perfumes.
When I was 5 years old, I told my mother to "shut up", she said: I'm going to wash your mouth out with soap. She took the Ivory bar that was on the kitchen counter near the sink grabbed me, and put it in my mouth. Obviously she didn't shove it all the way in, (as I think back) now, but I did get a taste of the soap.
1 - I have never ever told my mother to shut up again, even at my age.
2 - Ivory soap has never been allowed in my home, ever.
I like lever soap or soaps that dont have any perfume to them.
I don't always use soap, sometimes, I find - like the French - that women like my 'manly scent'
Bar Soap (Dial Basic) for shower after swimming to remove essence of chlorine from pool.
Baby Shampoo for 'Body Wash' when showering in morning
Lava Soap /Dishwashing liquid for kitchen sink
Coast Soap (in package) to make the Linen Closet / Clothes drawers always smell nice - that stuff has better olfactory longevity than any air freshener.
Mircea has excellent point on the costs. I refuse to waste money on body wash when Baby Shampoo will do almost as well. Where I live, I can usually find it for about $1 for 20-24 ounces.
I use both, but when traveling, bar soap because I do not like to decant bottles of body wash into approved containers as I will never put liquids in a checked bag, though I tend to minimize checked bags. I use: Kiehl's Since 1851 Ultimate Man Body Scrub Soap - Neiman Marcus

I use both shower gell/wash and bar soap. Bar soap I use mostly weekends I have soaps from Fragonard which are very nicely scented and leave the skin soft. Between uses I keep them with small clothes & scarves in a drawer so things smell nice. I rotate my soaps after they are dry so one weekend rose soap the next violet soap etc.
