Is it brainwashing by the media? Is it natural instinct? What is it about tan skin that makes humans so much more attracted to it than pale, when it may not even be healthy??

Gives a person a healthy vibrant look. Pale means sick, either anemic or not enough vitamin D.

Pale white skin reminds me of the skin on a chicken....just not attractive at all.

Creamy white skin is much more attractive than tanned, IMO. A lot of English women have beautiful complexions since they are not exposed to damaging sunlight. To me, tanned skin looks like dried shoe leather. Just goes to show how beauty is all in the eye of the beholder.

I have a suspicion that the real brainwashing is this message of "stay out of the sun!", "the sun is baaad for you!", "don't leave your house without covering yourself in SPF 100 and a wide brimmed hat!"

If the sun is sooo bad for me why do I look like I'm about to die every winter and look like the picture of health every summer?

I am not a fan of tanned skin. I would love to date a chic with smooth snow white skin. They look so cute (imagination)

(on face)
Myself: Huh
Dude next to me: Whaddaya Dreamin, get back to work.
Myself: Gladly sir

Go for it. There's plenty avail in central jersey. The girl that I'm dating now has creamy white skin. I like it when the summer comes around and she gets a nice tan.

Because looking like the bottom of a fish is not attractive to many people.

I have permatan, from years living in the South...I never quite go back to pale during the winter, even though I have been up North ten years now. It's lighter than it was when I was in Texas, but still there.

However, because I have vitiligo, this creates a different problem for me. My right hand looks like someone splashed battery acid on it a long time ago. It's the only major portion of my body that does not tan. I have a few spots of vitiligo scattered over my body, but the right hand is definitely the worst.

I am, actually, a bit self-conscious about it, since people who don't know better kinda freak when you shake hands with them. fortunately, in my professional life, I am dealing mostly with doctors who know exactly what vitiligo is, and know that vitiligo is NOT contagious.
