Thank you all for your suggestions so far!

I really like the idea of adding some color. At my 20-year high school reunion last year, I noticed a few girls with fancy dresses and bold necklaces and/or shoes in a totally different color than their dresses. I thought it was a little odd at first, but then I realized it was a really nice look in most cases.

I have also seen that look on shows like Gossip Girl and am afraid of looking too young and trendy, maybe even a bit ridiculous, if I go a little too far. I really do like the more classic look, but also don't want to be too "boring".

I work with a very interesting group of people and know that I will fit in just fine no matter what I do though. I fully expect one of my gay male coworkers to wear a dress, which is totally acceptable with my colleagues , and expect to see many eye catching ensambles from some of the ladies.

Thanks again, and please feel free to make more suggestions. I have until Jan. 11 to work this out and will probably pick up a few things this weekend to try on with the dress. I will post some pics of the ideas that I like best so you all can comment on them.

Oh, one more thing. Nude pantyhose or something black with design/texture? I think the latter.might be "too much" with the lacy part of the dress, but again I am rather clueless.

Go to necklaces and choose one of these. They are very in.

And gold, pink, fushia, nude with a colored sole.

I saw a fashion blog that recommended combining the standard string of pearls with another necklace of about the same length. The idea was that the single strand of pearls has become a little fuddy duddy, but if it is combined with another piece, it looks more interesting. I guess that is what I'd do under your circumstances. And so many of us have one strand of cultured pearls.

Or, I'd recommend a nice piece of costume jewelry that makes a statement right at your collar bone.

Have fun at your party!

I was going to suggest, if you want a bright color to go with black and white red is awesome, then tiny posts pictures of exactly what I was thinking! But maybe a simple pendant. Don't want to compete with the skirt. Sometimes less is more. Many stars who are dressed by pros don't wear necklaces. I'm dying to see a wide red belt on that dress!
