I am going to a black-tie optional party on January 11 and bought my dress this evening. I am not very fashion conscious though and would really appreciate some suggestions for jewelry and shoes.

I am in my late-30s, so don't want anything too young/flashy looking. I would prefer something more classic.

I am 5'10, size 18, and the dress sits right above my knee. It has a low neckline and shows a little cleavage, but not too risque.

I would prefer now to wear heels but would consider a low, sturdy heel.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Is the top part velvety? Then some velvety flats would be nice. If you want to accessorize find a long string of faux pearls and loop it around your neck a couple times.

A black necklace would look good, maybe black beads with some gold or silver ones mixed in. Earrings to match. Then black velvet shoes, whether heels or flats. Do you have a DSW near you? I have seen a lot of velvet shoes there recently.

Another choice could be a choker of black silk with beads threaded through it. You'd have to look for something like that.

I would wear bright shoes for a pop of color. Perhaps with some texture. Like purple or burgundy suede.

The first thing that comes to mind to me for shoes is black flats but maybe that's just me.

Pearls look real nice on everyone. There are low heel shoes with a bow on top you can see a picture at Women & children's clothing | Free Returns & UK Delivery
