Typically, while going on long haul road trips (over 200 miles) I tend to wear shoes that don't squeeze my feet and make them sweat like crazy. Additionally, I take off my heavy coat to have better steering control by reducing weight on my arms and compensate by turning up the heat.
So, how do you dress up to feel comfortable while driving long distances.
Loose sweats in winter, take off heavy coat like you, normal socks and comfortable sneakers (like keds or converse low tops) or comfortable shoes (like flat Clarks).
Summer? A tee shirt, comfortable - broken in jeans, thin socks with keds or thin socks with Birkenstocks (yes, I do socks with sandals on long road trips in the summer because I don't want my feet to freeze with the AC on... lol).
I assume you live near LA from your location description. How do you manage to "speed" on a freeway choked with traffic.
No kidding, dead serious. I try to avoid bikinis, don't want folks to think I'm cheap and easy. I thought we were talking about 200 mile road trips, btw. LA is big, but it's not that big. I've been able to do about 95-100 on the 405 fwiw, it all depends which time of day or night.
At one point, I felt so hot and wore a sleeveless undershirt with jeans (AS A GUY ) because it was 92 F, the sunlight was so intense, and humidity was insane.
Well...the last time I went on a road trip was from the suburbs of Boston to somewhere in Connecticut and I wore a pair of leggings, a tank top with a big comfy sweater and a pair of chucks.
I'll be spending 7 hours on a plane (just a passenger ) fairly soon and plan on wearing a pair of capri length workout pants, tank top with long sleeve top over it and a comfy fleece zip up with running shoes.

That's not technically a "road trip" in my opinion as I used to do New Brunswick, NJ----Hartford, CT every month or so.

You left yourself wide open for that one! This may happen more than you know--a very straight, macho fellow I once dated invited me over to his house for lunch one time--he greeted me at the door wearing stiletto heels and, well, you can guess what else he was wearing....
Not to hijack this thread, when on long car trips, my hubby does most of the driving but I still want to be comfy so that means long pants that stretch two ways, an elastic or half elastic waistband, long enough rise, long sleeved top and a mid or lightweight long sleeved sweater.
