The other day I overheard something hilarious. A trainer was asking a prospective customer some basic stats, including height. The guy replies 5'10 or 5'10.5 and the trainer tried to keep from laughing. (I had to refrain from side eye) This guy was maybe 3 inches taller than I. And I am 5'5 on a good day. More like 5'4. The trainer was right around my height so it was clear to him as well.
Why do people lie so obviously?
I have met women who claim they are 5'6 or 5'7 who are a centimeter taller than I and I wear lots of flats.
I guess because being tall is considered attractive in our society. I think I'm technically 5'1 and 3/4, but I always just say I'm 5'2". It's not that bad of an exaggeration.
I did not think women lied about their height but I guess I am wrong. Men I do feel sometimes exaggerate. I had a friend who used to say he was taller then he was. I am 5 7 female and what he said his height was it would of made him tower over me which he did not.
Was he wearing really thick shoes (i.e. heels)? Maybe he was counting that...
Nope. This was with the normal sneakers. Even with shoes he would have been lucky to hit 5'9. Lol. My sneakers weren't 3 inches high. I actually was wearing super low profile sneakers that day. Maybe an inch.
A lot of people are ashamed to admit they are shorter than average for their sex.
I hit 6'2" tall just before turning 12, and am the same height at 81 years old, so I have never lied about my height. For decades I was a commercial real estate broker in Colorado. I dressed in western cut suits (not those that rodeo and western singers wear) that were in good taste, and wore western boots with a 2 1/2 heel. When I put on my Stetson, I hit 7 feet tall to the top of my hat. It helped me stand out in business all my life and made me a lot of money to stand out above the crowd. I know my height helped me all my adult life.
Due to the way I was received due to my height, I can understand why a lot of shorter people lie about their height, if they are shorter than average. They want to feel normal at least.

Men of course tend to lie worse....
Why do women lie about their body type, as well? It's because skinny/curvy (for women) and tall (for men) is considered "acceptable" by society's standards. It doesn't excuse the lie, though.
