Whenever I look at these stories, in National Geographic, featuring Indians, with their face-painting, I want to just get out the paint some day and paint my face and run off to a shopping mall, just to see what effect it would create. I've got some bright lime green paint that I'm itching to apply to my face and one day, I'll do it! You certainly couldn't be arrested for it!!!

Tattoo's are permanent, whereas with paint you can remove it any time, create some something new the next time.

Is it because of the connotations with Indians that it hasn't become fashionable? Just curious!

"'Why Hasn't Face Painting Ever Become Fashionable?"

It is... with clowns and juggalos.
Those groups are probably why... nothing to do with Indians.

Watch the Seahawks vs 49ers game on TV Sunday, and tell me again that face painting isn't fashionable.

Yep.

Plus, most people want to showcase or highlight the beauty of their faces. Face paint obscures it.

Just a different type of makeup. Some people put on enough of the more commonly used face paint that might as well.

I've wondered why temporary tattoos - like long term ones that last maybe a year, haven't become more popular, but I think part of the appeal of tattoos is their permanence. Like it's 'hardcore' if you have something that'll be there forever, on your skin.

Face painting? Well, what about mimes? Then there are those who tattoo theirs too (that would count).
