What is the weird obsession with men telling women how to look?

Actually, I'm quite conservative. My point was, gay men do not look at women the same way straight men do so who are they to dictate fashion? I know I'll probably get flack for this but that's one of the reasons I feel so many "fashion" choices today look so horrid.
Just look at runway "models" their bodies are more like boys, which, I'm sure is great for gay men but few/no straight men actually find the models or what they wear attractive in the least. It especially makes such little sense, since, if you were wanting to show off clothes wouldn't a full-figured healthy woman show clothes off better than a woman with anorexia?
For the record, anyone else DESPISE the show "What not to wear"? I think 90% of the time clinton and stacey have HORRIBLE taste and I HATE how they almost always cut their hair short.
I also find it ironic how, in the opening there is a sign that reads "No miniskirts after 35" even though stacey herself wears them. Guess she's the only exception
There are plenty of women over 35 that can wear miniskirts, and there are plenty of women under 35 that shouldn't (I see it all the time at the mall and during summer).

I'm all for women deciding for themselves on all of this. That doesn't mean I don't have preferences for what looks good to me. I know, I know you don't care what I or any man thinks. Fine but we can still express our opinions here.

Actually, some of us (myself included) DO care. I do like to know what is attractive to men. But we like to hear it in a respectful way, like the way YOU post, not some of the condescending misogynistic types here. We all have preferences on what we like on ourselves and others. Nothing wrong with expressing it in a respectful way. I think bottom line, MOST people (men and women) do enjoy making themselves attractive to others. As I have said before, I do it for myself, FIRST and foremost, but doing that makes me feel more attractive and therefore more confident which in turn makes me more attractive to both men and women.
As Angie Dickinson once told Johnny Carson on his TV show many years ago, 'I dress for women and undress for men!'
Methinks she nailed it, no?'
I have yet to meet any women who don't enjoy being complimented, as long as you do so with class and sincerity, and since I always wear dress slacks and a dress shirt whenever I go to the movies, out to dinner or anywhere else, i also get tons of compliments as well.
It's the Golden Rule--Do unto others as you would have them do unto you, and it's worked impeccably well for me for well over 40 years.
because if we don't, the media will do it for us ; )
ultimately though, you (women) are getting dressed up for us. it's either that or you do it to show another girl how much more sexier you are than her or to make her jealous in one way or another or gossip about you if that's your thing. this is the point of dressing up. no one does it just to do it and then undo it.
