I don't think I've ever thought that the reason I wear a bra is so that I don't have saggy breasts later in life. They are for support and for comfort, and are definitely not a false necessity.
Boobs are too precious not to be pampered and protected! If you like/need a bra by all means wear one. If you don't... enjoy the breeze. Thank God for women. They are beauty in motion.
With all these years of viewing National Geographic magazines it seems to me that the tribal gals who don't wear bras get pretty droopy, but the western gals who do wear bras seem to keep their shape for a lot longer...that's just my observation.
This post made me smile because you put things so diplomatically! I noticed that too but wouldn't have said anything.

The tribal gals start having kids younger than Western ones, generally speaking.
But it mainly depends on size. Small ones generally don't sag, with a bra or without. I know women in their 40's--50's who have never worn a bra and they still look like teenagers.
Once I hit C cup in my early 20s (Before kids... I've been as high as DD, but I'm a D now), mine have needed to go in a bra of some sort on the regular. I'd be miserable WITHOUT one.

Next they'll do a boxers vs briefs study for men.....I'm not hanging around for that.
