My wife told me in the mall that little girl is wearing UGGs. I replied, yea they're not very good looking boots. So she said they are expensive as well and showed me they are atleast $100-250 for some.
Gotta be the most overpriced and ugliest boots I've ever seen. Not even sure they are really weather proof by the looks of the design.
Growing up surfing in the 80s, uggs were a form of FUNCTIONAL footwear. When you winter surfed you came out of the water and put them on immediately. If they got wet and sandy it was no big deal because they lived in your car. Sometime in the late 90s people started wearing them for fashion reasons.
I have a pair that I wear to the hockey rink. We spend many hours a week around the rink. Normal shoes just don't keep my feet warm and my toes wind up going numb. That's the only place I will wear them though, but they work GREAT for that purpose!

I don't go to a rink, but I only where them indoors when my feet are cold. I have a slipper pair at home and a knit pair for work. I tried wearing them outside, but I feel like when there's snow, or ice!, they give you no traction.
They're designed to do one thing and they do it extremely well. They keep your feet warm. They're only a couple hundred dollars, hand-made with the finest sheepskin and fleece. You get what you pay for.
I have a knock off pair, I don't care if people think they're ugly, they have been a life saver for my feet this winter with the polar vortex, they have kept my feet warm and comfortable.
I guess the big deal is the "big price" for me. Here in the SW USA, it doesn't get that cold and I wouldn't get my money's worth from them. Wearing sandals most of the Winter since Christmas.
