As long as ones arms are muscular, non-flabby, and an asset when checking oneself out in the mirror, by all means show them off, even if you are 90. However, if the cellulite and the jiggles are present in any way, shape, or form, then cover up.
When going for a little bit of body exposure, it's less about age and more about whether what you are exposing looks good. It is tragic for a 40 plus to be exposing fat. So if that issue is present, stay covered. When making the decision to expose something, just ask yourself: does this thing I am revealing look good and can it turn my target audience on? Nice, toned, smooth arms are always worth showing off. Fat or sloppy arms should be kept under wraps.
Oh please. Wear whatever is comfortable. Other people can avert their eyes if they don't like it. If someone finds 40+ people exposing fat to be 'tragic', they are living a pretty pampered life. Not everyone dresses for a 'target audience'.
I have no "target audience". I dress for my comfort, not your viewing enjoyment (or not). Perhaps some people need a hobby, so they won't be so worried about how other people are dressing, LOL!
I think most people's elbows are going to get more gnarly as they age, but how often do you go around looking at people's elbows?
I dislike severe muffin tops, butt cracks, and tight leggings on legs that shouldn't be wearing them----but no one's making me look at 'em, one is always free to avert one's eyes.
In general I'm not that concerned about what other people think of how I look or dress, although obviously at my age short-shorts and miniskirts are a thing of the past, even though I also happen to have really great legs. I was just curious whether there was a contingent of folks here who thought that sleeveless tops was a no-no at some point in one's life.
I plan on shopping for some cute boho items for spring this weekend!
187 years old. After 180 it starts to get a little sketchy.
This. Personally, I wouldn't wear them if I had really flabby upper arms. I don't think age has anything to do with it. This is especially true since I live in a very hot climate. I like wearing sleeveless shirts a lot because I have beautiful tats on each upper arm, and I'm proud of them
It has nothing to do with being over 40 and everything to do with knowing what looks good on your body. It is just as "tragic" when a 22 year old wears low rise jeans exposing rolls and a muffin top as it is when a 52 year old does it. Just look at the general population: most people do not know how to dress for their body type and accentuate the positive.
When arms get flabby and skin gets saggy, stop baring them if you have any self-respect.
But with more self-respect comes better self-care, more time spent doing push ups & pull ups and eating nutritiously, so no flabby, saggy arms :-) Hence, show off that upper body all summer if you look & feel good!
Or just wear whatever the hell you want, no matter how you look or feel. It's a free world :-)
