You should use an exfoliating scrub. Many brands have one where it's a battery powered device that rotates the scrub. I would also recommend coconut oil, which lasts much longer than any lotion I've used, but I would at least test that out for a few days and see how your skin reacts to it.

I get really dry and patchy skin in the winter too. I once had eczema, and was prescribed a topical lotion and it cleared up, so perhaps these spots could be a eczema rash? I recommend a gentle cleanser, like Cetaphil and a good THICK moisturizer. I love the one by this company called sensitive skin. It works great for sensitive skin, and really hydrates. I am picky with moisturizer and I can honestly say that I like it. My dermatologist recommended Cetaphil to me and said to really lather my skin with moisturizer to combat the dryness.

And switch to a facial cream. Not a regular lotion.
That sounds perfect. I will get it soon.

Aloe vera gel works great.

My skin's been dry this winter, been using vitamin e oil and shea butter as my moisturizer.

Also an exfoliant will help, sugar & olive oil work wonders.

Everyone suggesting coconut oil is right, its the best moisturizer i've ever tried. But make sure you get the PURE EXTRA VIRGIN UNREFINED kind, the refined coconut oils don't have all the "good stuff" that makes it great to use on your skin. I've been using it for only about 6 weeks now and my skin looks completely new, I used to always be broken out but now i'm not. But I have to make sure to apply it at least once a day.

Lots of people are suggesting exfoliating, but I think that might make it worse. I hear when you skin is 'upset' to avoid exfoliating because it could make it worse, and go with moisturizing. You could look into "oil cleansing" with coconut oil or castor oil or sunflower oil, and skip face wash all together. Moisturize and the dry skin will 'fall off', pull the dry skin off with exfoliating and it could cause your skin to be worse.

But, if I were you, i'd be on google searching every different kind of dry skin to see if its not an allergic reaction or something else.

Its quite embarrassing to say the least, since there are white spots all over my face due to extreme dryness. Is there any possible solution to this problem. Frequently, people mistake me for being sick due to this dry facial skin issue. Any advice on what must be done.

As a former makeup artist, here is what you do. Exfoliate every single day. Take a handful of sugar, yes white sugar, and scrub your face. Go to Target and buy Boots serum and use it afterwards. You can do the exfoliating in the shower but do it every day.

Moisturizer does nothing for your skin. The molecules that make up moisturizer are too large to be absorbed by your skin. A serum on the other hand is made up of teeny tiny little particles that are absorbed by your skin and fix all the damage done.

The exfoliating will get rid of all of your dead skin.

You will see a massive difference immediately.

If you can't get Boots serum, get Oil of Olay.

Absolutely not. Exfoliating will remove all of his dead skin.

A long time ago I was thinking about Queen Esther and the months of beauty treatment she went through with the other "contestants". It dawned on me the oils used probably included olive oil. Since then I've used olive oil every day for years. I always think how pure it is and how many centuries it's been used. my 2cents.

Besides, if you're out at dinner, and your face is dry you can always the oil on the table.

Nah, I would rather do my touch up stuff at home .

And I do use coconut oil, but the problem is that coconut oil freezes over here in the winter if exposed and so my use is only limited from April-October. In India, we used it on a daily basis and I never had any problem with my skin (Face and body).

Do you exfoliate just once a day? I tend to exfoliate 1-2 times a day. I'm not sold on the sugar method, but whatever floats your boat.
