They could have been. This is music we're talking about. There is always someone that is gay. As with all music there is a large influence; a lot of artists are gay this is nothing new and should not come as a surprise to anyone.

Men's clothing has gotten very slim fitting, and it's not the OP's imagination. My son is a muscular, well built man with broad shoulders, flat stomach, not fat at all. He has always worn clothes either L or XL depending on the cut. Now all the new clothes in size XL are too tight. Seems like clothes these days are designed for men with the build of a 13 year old boy.

Usually the people still wearing the ultra baggy look are older. The younger people are sagging their skinny jeans. See little Wayne.

Don't get sizes confused with CUTS. Some places offer slim or fitted or "athletic" fit which will be CUT differently than a classic or standard XL.

In terms of size, I have found the exact OPPOSITE of your son. I am a smaller guy - 5'8 but very lean (muscular with very little body fat) but the SMALL these days are cut very poorly and obviously have 'updated 'their sizes to vanity sizes with the chubby/soft average american in mind. Luckily some places like J. Crew, Bonobos, Banana Republic, etc. still make stuff that is tailored the ways clothes are supposed to fit a guy.

I've been the same weight and build for the past probably 12 years. Smalls fit me perfectly back in HS and early college, but the past several years all of a sudden the smalls started getting bigger and bigger on me; they fit me like mediums used to! I pretty much have to go with a slim small or even an XS sometimes! to have shirts fit me properly. Otherwise, a "standard" small dress shirt these days is cut like a bedsheet!

I watched a 4 part documentary on hip hop. It aired on VH1, and I watched all of them On Demand today.

Called The Tanning of America. Quite interesting were #3 and #4 where they discussed how hip hop jumpstarted, and influenced fashion trends.

The baggy clothes aren't all that fashionable now. As music trends change so does fashion. Take a look at what Jay Z and Justin Timberlake are wearing.

I kinda like it.

Baggy is out. The only thing remaining in male fashion that is long and baggy are shorts. I doubt that pre-Hip Hop shorter shorts will ever come back.

I don't think it was that sudden, I think it was about 2008 when I first noticed it. I mean maybe its catching on more now but its not like this just started last month.
I like the change, I grew up on 90's rap but I like a lot of Hopsin's stuff too.
