If you go to a busy public place and people watch you will notice that the majority of people don't look like models. People who may be considered unattractive find significant others. People also differ in what attracts them to a person.
It sounds like you have self esteem issues and you may be putting off a vibe that is not approachable. That being said have you tried starting a conversation with a person that you are interested in? When you see someone do you smile? Do you have your arms crossed?
If this was all it took there would be no man on here complaining.
Amusingly, reality is like the opposite of what she's saying: if you want to attract a woman, it seems like the key is to BE a jerk. Of course, then women explain that by saying that those guys are more confident. And then that guy dumps them later and they go to eat a pint of ice cream.
I have been told this before. I met a girl, she gave me her number and we started texting. She told me her only rule was don't be a jerk. I would invite her to the movies, have dinner (she loves sushi) but she will not return my messages. I have been a complete gentleman and nothing works.
While that is certainly true, I have experienced enough bad initial treatment by women to know that ugly trumps personality in many cases.
