I live in NoCal but probably only swim maybe 2-3 times a year. I bought a bathing suit last year for vacation but before that (when I lived in KY) I hadn't owned a bathing suit for 4-ish years. I just don't like having clothes sitting around that never get worn.
I just recently bought two new swimsuits for three reasons: (1) The last time I bought bathing suits---probably 10+ years ago and last year when I wore them, the elastic was basically gone and the bottoms could have just given away at any minute (2) I lost weight and felt like it (3) I'm going to Jamaica and plan on swimming a lot so I wanted more than one suit on hand.
Now what I decided to do was buy black bottoms---one bikini/one shorts-like---and whenever they have tops on clearance, I might just pick up the tops. Black bottoms can pretty much go with anything if I really want something different.
I bought at least 7 last summer and probably the same amount the summer before along with some cute cover ups. Prior to that though it had probably been over 5 years since I last bought one.
I think they really have come out with beautiful colors and styles recently, especially for older women like myself, so I wanted to make sure I got all the ones I liked. You never know when the styles will change and/or they go back to lots of black (which I don't like).
I had no choice but to buy a new one last week - I've lost weight and my old ones don't fit anymore. I also live minutes from the beach, so I got a new tankini but am having a hard time keeping the girls covered up and tucked in. I should have bought from VS where you can get fuller busts. I'm also taking a lifeguard class in the fall, so I'll be looking for a one piece that's more like a Speedo swimmer suit or something. I don't usually mind standing out among my classmates, but in this instance I'd like to blend in with the other students.
I live in a climate where I can swim or use the hot tub most of the year, my condo has both, and I like to take advantage of this. The hot tub is pretty rough on swimwear.
I'm also vain - I tend to have one cute swimsuit for stuff like pool parties, vacations with my SO, etc. And one more functional suit for when I want to do some serious lap swimming or water aerobics.
I have 3 tops (and 1 on the way), 3 black bottoms, 2 white bottoms, and four "onesies" - 1 on it's last legs.
I live in SoFla and snorkel, kayak, pool-frolic, hot-tub and beach bathe.
I am not done "rounding out the collection"!
I also have a few "sport halters" that I use as activewear for miscellaneous indoor/outdoor activities.
I think thats the goal of all is to be able to fit into that kini or 1 piece when the warm weather arrives. I can fit into 2 of my 3 so ive got a few lbs to lose. Still, im so body conscious i usually wear a cover-up with my suit. Oversized tshirts are really good as cover-ups although macys does have a couple cute ones.
