I'm going to Europe for a month or so, and would like to pack light. I'll be attending a wedding while I'm there, and I don't like the idea of packing a pair of dress shoes that I won't be able to wear any time other than the wedding. Any tips on a kind of shoe/outfit that would be appropriate for a summer wedding, but would also be usable during the remainder of my trip?
The best thing to do in your case would be to buy a pair of sneaks and a pair of flats. The sneakers you will need for Europe. You will be walking ALOT and you need a comfortable pair. Since you don't want dress shoes, the next best step would be to buy a pair of nice looking flats that matches your dress. It's lightweight, won't take up much space, and still looks classy and put together with a simple dress.
A pair of low heel strappy sandals wouldn't take up much space at all. Personally, I'd prefer to wear nicer shoes for a wedding than whatever shoes I've been traipsing in around all week.
I agree with other poster who said flats ..and sneakers . They have some very nice flats out now that match outfits really well . sneakers are for traipsing around all day . Yes where are you going what country ?
Sneakers would be too hot for Summer in Europe (unless you're far into the north of Europe).
My advice is to pack two pairs of shoes:
1) For the wedding and for evenings out, pack a reasonably dressy pair of leather sandals in a neutral colour with a low or mid-size heel (NO stiletto heels! This Spring I saw absolutely no one wearing stilettos in Paris... it's either chunky heels or flat heels).
2) For walking around during the day, a pair of sandals or ballerinas with a flat heel but thick rubber sole. Clarks or Aerosols are recommended, or a similar brand.
I disagree about wearing sneakers in Europe. You will look like a tourist and be a target for pickpockets.
