I think a lot of American men confuse good taste, sophistication and taking pride in one's appearance with being "metrosexual."
Most women appreciate a man who takes pride in his appearance. Honestly, I get sick to death of seeing grown men running around in jeans, tennis shoes and sweatshirts with 3 day shadow on their faces and ratty grown out haircuts and raggedy fingernails. Oh and don't get me started on grown men who wear JERSEYS outside the house!! Do they think they're 12 years old?
I think many (I'm not trying to say all, because there are lazy people all over the world) European men (and many urban American men) spend a little more time trying to look stylish and sophisticated.
I remember during college I worked at a very popular, upscale restaurant/lounge and we would often get these divine European men coming in. They were impeccably coiffed, with perfectly tailored clothes, manicured nails, and beautiful skin that had obviously been exfoliated and moisturized. You should have seen the women SWOON. Hehe. Man they were nice to look at
!
But makeup? Err. I would have a hard time with that one!
