So, sandals are out and sneaker season has started. But I just found out that the only pair of sneakers I own, has a badly damaged sole. I almost fell while walking with it today. I seriously need a pair of sneakers, one which isn't too expensive (around $40), and lasts for 2-2.5 years. without major damage. Any suggestions on what to buy ?

I do not think you wil be able to do this. Just my opinion. I think you need to consider the possibility of future foot problems by purchasing something like that.
My New Balance cost me about $120.00. Perfect fit everytime for my extra wide feet.
You really can't expect a $40 pair of sneakers to last 2 years if worn daily.
Lots of sneakers today could survive a nuclear blast and will last virtually forever, but they're more like $100. They'll go out of style and you'll get sick of them long before they wear out.
I love classic Puma Suedes and I have pairs of them in multiple colors. They're in the $40-60 range, depending on color and what they have on sale. They last me about a year of relatively heavy use 2-3 days a week. I find them very comfortable for heavy amounts of walking.
Rockport has sneakers that are comfortable and durable, though you'll have to up your budget $20-$30.
I'm good with $ 60-70 if it provides me the level of durability I expect. I'll check them out. I had a FILA sports shoe for 1.5 years of almost daily use, and bought it for $40. It worked like a charm, till one fine day this week the sole ripped off and I almost fell down.

You got more than your money's worth. Not sure what more you expect. Get another pair of those if they worked for you.

Thing is, right now they are $ 70. I bought them on a 40% off sale 1.5 years ago. I want to try something new, though. That's why I'm asking for recommendations.
Even $70 is not bad for a pair of sneakers you wear every day for 1.5 years.
But I understand if you, want to change it up. I always found Asics to be good and durable. Saucony too. But they're around $100, IIRC.
What about style? I don't favor NB because they seem bland to me. Puma is edgier. I like Adidas too. Not a big fan of Nike either, for some reason. They're too common for me.
Are you looking for a pair of sneaks that are a bit unusual, that not every guy is wearing?
