I just bought a black and white houndstooth coat. What color scarf to wear with it, outside of the obvious---black or white

I think a solid would be preferable, because the houndstooth is already busy enough. How about solid purple? red? Cashmere? Silk?

Hmmmm........

How about deep red, like cranberry, and a patent leather cranberry purse? Black gloves, so not to carry the red too far.......

Go with a color that suits you very well. Its proximity to your face will complement your skin and look very flattering.

I agree with JustJulia. When I have something black and white like that, I usually wear a magenta scarf. Looks good!

If you can wear red, that would be great! Not everyone can, so maybe a Hunter green or French Navy blue would work, just not navy blue. I like mixes of wool and silk or angora and silk as they are both warm and soft to my skin.

I love houndstooth - timeless - use to have a houndstooth suit w/blk velvet collar & buttons. I wore red blouse with it, red nicely complements houndstooth.

Also, magenta or cranberry scarf are nice shades to wear with houndstooth.

I have a fuzzy soft pink scarf I wear with my black and white houndstooth jacket. But the fuzzies get stuck to my lips. It's like carrying a kitten next to your face.

I also have an aqua and green patterned scarf that looks pretty awesome. I think of houndstooth as a neutral... anything goes.

From a distance the black/white has an overall gray color, so that's a neutral base. You could go with another neutral and disappear into the background, or a bright color to pop out or a more muted color for a different effect, etc. Plus it's not like you can't have more than one accessory for it. Get them all and wear them as your mood changes.
