I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before on these forums, but thought I'd ask anyway:

Do you think women look more professional or "dressed" when they wear makeup? Say a woman goes to a formal event (or any party) wears a lovely outfit, jewelry, does her hair nice... but wears no makeup. Would that bother you or would you notice? If two women are at a workplace and one wears makeup and the other doesn't, would you notice, or would you take one or the other more seriously or think one looked more professional (whether you really noticed or not)?

I ask this because it seems like a lot of women are under this impression. I was taught by my mother that I wasn't "dressed" unless I wore makeup, but hear this sentiment from others as well.

Depends on the face. Some women look better with no make-up, and some may need to never take it off lol

And as for wearing make-up myself, I do lipstick and blush whenever I leave the house, because I think I am a woman who needs make-up to look decent. So, I don't feel comfortable going totally natural. I have to be having a very off day in combo with an indifferent attitude to do such.

And I do think it's incomplete without eyeliner and mascara, because with blush and lipstick, it's made up at the bottom, and naked at the top (eyes).

But these are my personal thoughts for myself. Your mother and others just feel make-up completes a dressy attire, but probably many women who don't think that, and find make-up to be false advertising. And I have heard some men who hate make-up and like a woman who's natural with beauty.

In all my life, I dont think Ive ever seen a woman attend such an event without some type of makeup on, well, except for one single time. But the gal was young, (early 20s), absolutely flawlessly beautiful, and very into the "earth", yoga, veganism, peace, etc. She is the only one I can think of to attend an event like you mentioned without any makeup. Quite frankly, she was so beautiful she didnt need any makeup. Its kinda expected that she would put something on for these types of events. I'd almost think something was wrong with her if she DIDNT put any makeup on. Im not talking about cakeing it on, we are just talking about some type of makeup right?

Men always say that and yet continue to chase the ones with makeup. I get more play wearing makeup than not, despite my mother always telling me "oh guys don't like all that makeup."

Maybe it's the clown look some guys hate. Or, a fact some women don't look good natural and need a boost. That definitely plays a part. It's like bald women, or shaved-head women. With a good face, a woman can pull that off and be sexy. Another woman could try that and look like a mess.

The porn star, Skin Diamond, has part of her head shaved. She has it where she can bring hair over and cover it, but it's shaved under the bottom a bit.

She had it more bald than that, but these were the best pix I could find.

She pulls that off well. But she has a cute face. I know I couldn't, and wouldn't try to emulate that.

I wish people who are posting on this thread had filled in their profile information, because I have a hunch that people's attitudes toward cosmetics are influenced a lot by the region they live in. In New England, at least away from the New York suburbs, makeup is pretty optional and lots of women don't use any at all, whatever the occasion. From what I've heard (but I don't know the area well enough to be sure) I suspect that the northwest (Seattle, Portland) may be similar. Or am I just basing this on the women I see most often? if you hang around with techies and hikers, the ladies favor the natural look.

Meanwhile, VanillaChocolate in points unknown says "As for wearing make-up myself, I do lipstick and blush whenever I leave the house, because I think I am a woman who needs make-up to look decent." Needs make-up to look decent, huh.

Oh trust me, I've known a lot of women who wear colorful makeup who have men beating down their doors. I've known women I wouldn't consider conventionally attractive who don't wear makeup who get men and I don't. People tell me I'm pretty, but I don't see it, and I'm definitely not photogenic, and I've gone through phases where I wore a lot of makeup, some makeup and no makeup and it hardly makes a difference, men still don't like me.

Coming from a rural mans perspective I don't care for the looks of women without makeup and kept or styled hair. Even farm girls doll up before they go outside or to town. I don't see how or why a Bronx chick doesn't care.....

My opinion....

All depends on the woman. Some look great, others don't. I prefer women that don't need it. My gf is Hispanic an wears it maybe a few times a month. Typically she wears none.

I really don't like any women that wear excess makeup. I also hate lipstick on 99% of women that wear it. I just feel like it's tacky or trashy. Yuck.

Just to clarify: I'm not asking if women look more or less attractive to men by wearing makeup, but how together, competent or professional they seem with or without it to all genders (or if it doesn't make a difference). Kinda disappointing that it immediately went in that direction...

Aw, don't beat yourself up comparing your love life to others! I thought I was ugly for the longest time when others said I was pretty (I'm also not photogenic at all, that sorta feeds the perception). I found out that quite a few guys were interested in me but never pursued it because they thought I'd reject them. And it's very true that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Just stay positive and let guys know if you're interested and you'll find someone.
