Maybe because their American parents put them in loose underwear when they are younger and they stick with that shape. It's like every American man I meet always needs to have his balls hang around freely.
While parents in other countries give their children tighter underwear and they are used to the tight feeling and continue with tighter swim trunks as Americans. None of my German exes constantly grabbed his junk and adjusts and talks about balls needing to breathe, ball sweat, balls this and balls that. It is a cultural thing that Americans are fixated on their balls.
I always think it must be difficult to swim far with such a huge amount of fabric flowing around in the water.
Excuse me? Unless you're speed swimming, which I don't do, I don't want my "junk" hanging out and on display for all the world to see. And at my age, it would be quite "gross" anyway.

I have the fortune of having traveled outside of the US, and everywhere I went, men's swimsuits are speedos. Then I came back and saw all men wear swim trunks.
Why?
Personally, I think Speedo on a man is unattractive. At least a woman has the good taste to tidy up her area down there when wearing a bikini. I still can't get rid of this horrific image from my mind of that German tourist in Jamaica with his tight skinny red speedo. Gaaahhh!!
