I'm 41 y/o and my buddy and I were talking about the kind of women we like and I told him, going to back to my early 20's I've always like "middle aged" women. My sweet spot is 45-55 in terms of age.
I like the way women look at that age. This refers to women that have taken care of themselves, within reason. I like women that look dignified as they age. Here is a good slide show as example: Slide show
Well, that's commendable, but you realize the women in that slide show - as celebrities with high net worth - have the ability to look their best, have cosmetic surgery (which I gather all in the slide show have to varying degrees) and even if they have had children - had someone else take care of them.
That being said, I do find a certain type of older woman very attractive and it is a combination of natural beauty, fitness (how they carry themselves - not competitive fitness types - they are rare), and a comfort in their sexual being. I tend to notice this in mid 30s to mid 50s who remain young at heart, often have kids who keep them young (have a great nurturing nature), and are active. They can run the gamut in body types but are most always fit for their type. it's that playful warmth they can exude along with earthy sexiness (natural kind).
Most women - all things being equal - are at their physical beauty peak from about 20 - 45 depending on when they attain puberty, have had childbirth, and how well their body type adapts to the changes from childbirth. Often times those who are attractive in youth are those with early physical maturation rate and tend to age quicker.
Of the women on the slide show, an interesting side note was Christie Brinkley's optimizing anything she does (drying hair) to be active / exercise. Some are blessed with natural beauty that lasts (Cheryl Ladd, Jaclyn Smith, Brinkley etc...). Others have had so much cosmetic surgery you're really looking at a caricature / mannequin of them.
As Ruth4Truth aptly pointed out, certain types may look better (to an individual based on preferences) and longer due to their natural beauty and the ability to maintain healthy 'aspect ratios' i.e. their nice feminine curves with least impact from gravity. For instance, I've tended to notice petite women can often maintain their physical visual beauty with active effort slightly easier than very tall women.
And I've mentioned before, I occasionally still see 70 and older women who by their nature and how they move are very attractive. I have an elderly Hungarian neighbor in building - mid 70s - that still looks great. (Makes me wonder how beautiful she looked in her 30s). I still admire beauty from puberty to 70 with the greatest weighting statistically in the mid 20s- mid 40s range. And do notice more mid 30s to mid 50s beauties simply due to the confidence of a 'life lived' factor.
This is a nod to Christie Brinkley's efforts courtesy of Alfred Hitchcock....

I think if I am single at age 65, I'll date women in that age range. Simply put, they look like.....women.
I know guys my age that still chase "young girls", all of which doesn't do it for me. It never has. I've always liked the 45-55y/o women.
That's always a nice thing for a middle-aged woman to hear.
