The lighting in the bathroom at my office is the WORST. No matter how good my makeup looks, in that room I look exhausted and sick.
I know, right? Lighting makes a HUGE difference - sometimes it even depends on the angle of the sun if I am outside, and I hate severe downlighting or uplighting and most fluorescents - lol. I like slightly dim, slightly "pink" lighting to look my best...
As far as makeup, I would never wear the 5 lbs of makeup on those models - but I definitely look 100% better with my eye makeup on, which is mostly what I wear (brow, liner and mascara) plus a little tinted lip gloss.
No photoshop needed that is all acheived with makeup.
I look like a different person in my iwn photos with extra makeup. Go to a department store and get tbem to show you how to contour and see how different you look. Combine that with overlining your lip and you'd be shocked.
I've never been able to find anyone at a makeup counter who was able to do that, or to do anything in the general ballpark of what the makeup artist in the article does. Most of the people at makeup counters don't have much training at all. If you're able to get a supervisor, then you can get somewhere. Otherwise, it's just product demos, it's not really about enhancement for the client, in my experience.

I have some pale pink eye brightening stuff that I really like.

If you are curious, Sephora typically has a comtouring makeover option.
