I like the way these look, but is there actually a purpose for the cowl neck? Do the drawstrings have a function?

Why are so many "designers" trying to make men dress in women's clothing?
The cowl neck shirt has been a woman's article of clothing since it was created and it should be left that way.

you can pull the cowl up over your head, like an unstructured hoodie. the drawstrings can then cinch it so it doesn't fall down.

Maybe it's a European thing, because most men I've seen wearing these are European. I don't think it looks bad, but I was just trying to figure out if it has a function.
