Why would that bother me? Like others here, I've donated my share of deceased relatives' clothing--with the hope that someone will like and enjoy wearing the items and get good use out of them.

I know this is an old post but I think the OP is just trying to take a swipe at people who buy second hand clothing.

This totally reminds me of the thread about the guy who didn't want to use silverware that had been in someone else's mouth. Fascinating the things people obsess over.

Exactly. Personally, I feel more icked out at the thought of sleeping in a motel bed.......talk about germs (and bugs)

I posted in this thread yesterday and was on my way to buy new shoes, consignment or thrift store. I ended up in a thrift store (so, donated clothing) and found a rack with several pairs of very nice Cole Haan shoes, size 7.5 B in very good shape.

Now, in retrospect, I realize I'm wearing a dead woman's shoes. They're really nice, I'll say that.

My aunt received two 'vintage' sweaters. One was worn by Jackie O' (whom I believe is deceased?) And a pair of men's gloves worn by President Truman.
Used? Suredly so. Valuable. Equally so.

I consider cloth to be...material. Attended to..it can last awhile. Short of it being infested ...or damaged with holes, stain marks or thread loss . It's cloth. It can find a purpose.

I don't like the idea of these either, but what are we going to do? Well, we could bring plastic cutlery when we go to restaurants if you want to, but we can't carry around our own mattress. That's why I put my own pillowcase OVER the hotel pillow & try to wear sleepwear that covers as much of my body as it's comfortable to do.

By the time the clothing leaves whatever third world country it's manufactured in, travels in boxes and cargo bins on the holds of ships with rats and gets put on the rack to be handled by everyone who got there before you it's probably nastier than most thrift store items.

That's why it's a good idea to wash/dry clean EVERYTHING IF you have the money & time. I only wash underwear before I wear it for the 1st time.

So, after that first washing, you just keep wearing your underwear without washing it?
