Evey, what's keeping you from a good night's sleep?
Insomnia.
Seriously, wish I knew. I have been battling it for years. I have defied several very expensive doctors and an incredible amount of medication. I have extra brain wave activity, whatever that means. My neurologist believes that is is related to the chronic migraines that I also have but he has never been able give me a hard answer. The sleep specialist is also baffled.
Drink lots of water. It helps flush the kidneys which in turn helps reduce puffiness around the eyes.
Also - if you have an iPod, download some wonderful meditation music and listen to it before you go to sleep. If you should wake up in the middle of the night, listen to the music again and it will quiet your brain activity. Check out some Reiki music. Make sure the music contains no speaking, no piano, no drums - just soft-soft-soft new age music and you will drift back off to sleep.
One more - go to the health food store and buy some Melatonin. It is the natural hormone in our brains that make us fall asleep. Okay Evey, tell those aliens to back off! Sweet dreams...
axewoman,
Ditto on lots of H20, a good night's sleep, diet and relaxation...
The best 2 products that I've tried were Chanel something from their Precision line, pink fluid in white tube with a pump.
And more recently Erno Laszlo's under eye complex. Clear gel in a tiny clear jar.
I purchased it for $48 bucks @ Nordstrom after reading about it in O magazine.
The undereye bag syndrome runs in my family, and It worked for me
Preparation H?? OUCH
When I read that I instantly pictured that commercial showing a woman at church I think, she was twisting and shifting on her seat. Then lamenting "Hmm.. I should have used Preparation H..."
You had me laughing really loud.
Anyway if that works for some people who am I to rain on their parade?

Have had this problem for decades. I don't have wrinkles or sags - just puffiness. Doc says - allergies. Dunno.
Anyway, I started looking for a remedy in the early 80s. Everything I have tried - from Lancome to Elizabeth Arden, Dior, etc. made the problem worse. I even tried the Prep H!!! Yes, I did! Didn't do a thing for me at all.
Tried cucumbers, cold packs, and cold ice tea bags. All very soothing! But no help w/ the bags. SIGH.
So I wanted to ask - the Chanel Stuff and laszlo - is it for puffiness (as in reduces the puffiness) or is it for people w/ saggy bags (crepe-y looking) ?? Cause I really think everything I have tried might have worked for someone w/ crepe-y skin - as I felt it PLUMPED UP my skin (wh/ made the puffiness even worse).
I would be happy to pay the $48 - just hate to go try yet another remedy that doesn't help me - $$ down the drain.
Any additional info would be so appreciated! Thank you!!!!
Depsite the hype about bags under eyes, it's actually caused by a collection of pooling blood in the thin skin beneath your lower eyelid. So yes, relaxing music and drinking water would be a wonderful way to solve your dilemma in the long run - however, for a quick fix in the morning, I found it useful to slip on two cucumber slices and rest for 10 minutes before starting your day.
Also, sleeping with your head propped up with perhaps an extra pillow is just as useful, since it slows the pooling process of blood.
For quick fixes, keep two spoon in the fridge and slick the backs of them over your eyes when needed. There are special cosmetics that make thick concealers specially designed to hide the bags, and they also have a chemical that causes the liquid to cool down once it touches the warm skin to reduce the bags. I think Benefit cosmetics has one in a convinient tube, selling for around $18 at Sephora. Hope this helps!
