I like Brooks Brothers and J. Press, purveyors of traditional American menswear. LLBean and Lands End also fall into that category, and their clothing are less expensive.

Brooks Brothers cuts for those with the body of a walrus. The quality of much of their clothing is abysmal.
J. Press is fantastic, but expensive.
LL Bean is a strong all-rounder.
Land's End is completely devoid of any discernible aesthetic. It's the "safe" stuff I'd expect a bank teller to wear.
Ralph Lauren should appear here. Fantastic pricing during sales, very distinctive prep and "American" styling (depending on the line), flattering cuts for the athletic/thin/average man, and the clothing lasts forever.
