I'm not going to shake this down by category. I don't think I could or it would take too long. I bought a pair of shoes last month. I know I have one thing in my closet that's more than thirty years old.
Oh man~~ LOl...I go through my wardrobe every spring and toss out all the things I didn't wear, I have a few dresses from events maybe two years old, so I hang on to them , otherwise I buy new things ...I'm 52
Unfortunately, most of my clothes never last that long. I don't know if it's because I wear them so often that I wear them out, or if maybe my washer/dryer is ruining them, or maybe the material is cheap (even though the clothes aren't)....
Whoo- a hard one!
I mostly wear the same brands daily- Wrangler jeans and Carhart pullovers. The pants typically last around 2 1/2 years, and the shirts last longer.
I have a lot of other stuff I wear less often. Most of it is winter specific, so all of it last a lot longer because it's more seldom worn. The Carhart shirt thing is relatively recent, only going back to about 2007, so I have a lot of nicer shirts I sometimes wear.
Some of my clothing goes back 30 years. I always buy endurance over fashion. I gave a son one of my Pendleton shirts that I bought in high school and wore for the following 40 years. He's still wearing it now, and the shirt has another decade on it. It did get some elbow patches along the way, but they look good on the shirt.
I am not sure what the median age would be, but I can tell you that my newest clothing is from last month (I started a new job, and needed nicer clothing, so bought some), and that other day I wore a shirt that was 20-some years old. Today I wore a blouse that was over 10 years old with a brand-new skirt. Most of my clothing is somewhere in between.
