Depending on how they look and carry themselves I usually I think they are some sort of wannabe...which form you civilian wise comment I would assume with you as well.
Tamara? Are you a female? When I see a female in a tactical shirt I usually do not notice or if I do I am probably noticing how errrr.......ummmmmm......corn fed she is.
A strategic shirt has long sleeves and French cuffs worn with cuff links, is accessorized with a power tie, and is worn with a suit, not jeans or khakis.
I just get out of the way, especially if he's wearing the "Rapid Assault" shirt.
There is a very funny scene in a novel I once read in which the male protagonist and his female companion stop at a roadside diner while traveling. After they are seated, a handful of bikers enters the establishment and immediately set their sights on the guy in the suit. When it becomes obvious that fisticuffs are unavoidable, the Good Guy sends the Lady to the rest room, telling her not to come out until he comes to get her. He stands up, removes his jacket, then his dress shirt, revealing his T-shirt, the only clean one he had when he dressed earlier in the day, which bears the logo from the unit with which he had served in the Navy. Only one of the bikers recognizes the Seals' "Budweiser" emblem and tries to discourage his companions from proceeding. Needless to say -- it's a novel, after all -- things do not go well for the bikers. Good Guy gives the proprietor some money to cover the damages, collects the Lady, and they leave. I do believe the bikes suffered some indignities, too, as they departed.

Some of them look a lot like the Roughneck shirts from Cabela's that I wear.
I have both long and short sleeve models.
Tough fabric.
Comfortable.
At my age, those are the important things. I want clothes that are, IMO, comfortable, and that will last.
I don't care what others think of my apparel. I no longer have to impress anybody with my sense of "style" (which I never had anyway!).
Since true tactical clothing is now approved for wear off base, it is nothing to see soldiers and airmen in "woodland camo" wandering around stores.
It just ain't no big thing anymore!
I would never buy a $70 shirt, but I could also write a check for 1000 this minute. Why anyone in civilian life wants to look like a wannabe is beyond me. For interagency tactical training I was given a T-shirt it was free.
