There is a concept called "age-appropriateness" that, like it or not, does apply when selecting clothing.

People get all twitchy when stores sell clothes that are "too old" for little girls, and the reverse applies too. I saw a grandma attend a youth football game last week wearing platform stiletto heels and bright blue toenails. Yes, this 75-year-old technically fit in the jeans she had on, but she seriously looked ridiculous standing with the other moms and sisters, and she could barely walk in the shoes she had chosen.

Sure, I know ... there are "no rules" in fashion anymore and women today can and should wear whatever the heck they want based on fit and feel, regardless of age.

However ... Psychologists have proven that, while clothes say something TO you (in terms of mood and self-image - enclothed cognition), they also say something ABOUT you (to those who are looking).

So like it or not, those who are looking will always judge you in ways you cannot control. So don't be surprised when half the room says, "You go girl!" while the other half says, "What is she trying to prove?"
Gotcha! Look over your snarky comments to me in this very thread, and parse them through the filter of the logic quoted... ...

And the fact that the OP asked if the skirt is inappropriate... well, that usually means they have their reservations about it.

Depends on who you're wearing it for

Just came to this thread by accident but looking at all of the photos I can't see even my very thin 28 year-old daughter wearing that skirt. It just looks too juvenile; I think it would be great for teens through college-age; after that it just looks silly to me.

Also, I'm curious, ladies when you wear short skirts, do you normally wear biker shorts rolled up underneath? I just can't imagine leaving the house without something underneath the skirt, just in case I have a fashion mishap.
Go nato, be brave and let the breeze reveal a little hey-nonnnie-nonnie.

If OP is questioning whether she will wear it before even buying it, it's a good indicator she won't ever wear it, so she should probably pass on the purchase for that reason.

Exactly, gypsychic. I find it sad that women are so judgmental about how other women look. Goodness knows we get enough criticism from guys. Sure psychologists and others look at what you wear. So what? The important thing is that the wearer feels comfortable, because no matter what a person wears (or does), there are going to be people who don't approve of it. Guaranteed. You even said so yourself, wmsn. Oh, I almost forgot to mention that I bought this skirt a few months ago at age 38, nearly old enough for the nursing home according to some posters around here

First, the skirt in the video looks like thin neoprene rubber, more like a fetish item than an article of real clothing.

Second, the originally linked skirt actually looks frumpy or dowdy (the skirt itself, not the model). It's just dead looking.

I didn't say it was a room full of women only.

I once bought a sweater that I thought was "fun" and "festive." I showed it to my teenage son who asked me to never wear it when we had to be seen in public together. When I asked my husband what he thought, he said, "Huh, I didn't think you'd buy something like that." OK. It sort of took the fun out of it.

If the OP has already decided that at 38 with "skinny legs" which she seems to see as some kind of attribute (I'd rank "skinny legs" right down there with "fat legs" as something I find attractive) that she should be wearing a teenage girls skirt - then wear it.

You don't need our permission.

If you have kids, out of respect, I'd ask them how they'd like it if you picked them up from school in that ballet get up and your skinny legs hanging out.
