Where did it come from? I find it awful but it must de moda.

You know, normal haircut look but the center is upraised into a pyramid type tower.

I've been seeing it in Portugal for a year, maybe two....if we are talking about the same thing.

Why are you calling it the hammer hawk look?

Just another fad that will soon pass. . . same as the bald look, or men going around with 5 o'clock shadow.

I'm no longer into fads, but I tell ya...back in the early 60s we ratted our hair with a toothbrush to get it to poof out as much a possible.

A.K.A. the "I don't know how to use hair gel" look. Wasn't this a thing a year or two ago?

It always makes me think of a kewpie doll:

Some guys do it to add (perceived) height. It's a little bit edgy, but wouldn't work in every business setting.

My husband's coworkers were into that look about three years ago. My husband tried it, but he doesn't even usually comb his hair, so the routine with the gel and the hair dryer was more effort than he wanted to put into his morning grooming routine.

I always get the sides cut to a #1 and the top at a little more than finger width, some gel and have it up. Not sure it is a fad as that is how I have been wearing my hair for maybe 12 or so years now.

I recall the hair gel scene in Something About Mary.
