To this day, "Clueless" is such a great movie. Cher and Dion's clothes still look relevant in 2016. Love their looks. The others tho? Yeah, I agree the 90s were a rough decade fashion wise....

People with love handles or inner tube shapes (and that includes me)...look silly wearing the too tight stretch tops that are very unforgiving. Trying to find a simple t-shirt top for a woman anymore limits one to those types of designs.

Too baggy - too tight, a happy medium would be best.
I agree! when I see younger or older women that are BIG, squeezed into tights and tight shirts or shirts showing their flabby mid-drift inner tubes just to follow the styles of today, I don't think they look good at all. The style just doesn't match their figures.

My motto: IF you look better in looser clothing, then to heck with the style. I go for comfort, not style.

Hahahah. . . I still have a pair of twin cannons I bought in '96. Those were my favorite pair of jeans back in the day!

And what did I notice? How baggy all of the clothing was.

Some samples:
A Different World: look at the fit of those jackets!
Silk Stalkings: more jackets
90210: look at those pants!
Saved by the Bell: OMG Mario Lopez's whole outfit

I saw a pic of myself from that time frame and my pants were so unflattering.

And who could forget: [hulu=http://www.flickr.com/photos/281296]vTXpvx9y-cqnpSDXeenV3Q[/hulu]Mom Jeans.[/url]

These outfits were horrid!
Try watching Xanadu, Boogie Nights and a few other shows from the 70's...

The baggy/messy clothes of the 90s were a response to the super structured looks and dancewear looks of the 80s.

"Super structured"? Are you referring to formal wear or dance wear? All I remember from the 80's was the menswear look (square, shapeless jackets) and dresses that had elastic around the waist in lieu of tailoring. It was the complete abandonment of tailoring, giving the impression that designers and manufacturers had decided that tailoring was too costly. I do remember the catsuits and jumpsuits, but I thought those came out of the late 70's.

I don't see anywhere near as much squeezing into tops as some here do. Everything is the maternity shirt look. When just maternity-looking blouses weren't bad enough, giant flowy open sweaters became the rage (you know, with the front tips much lower than the straight back).

It's so bizarre because if you're not pregnant, you're supposed to wear tops that make you look pregnant and if you are pregnant, you're supposed to wear super-tight shirts across your "baby bump" (that term bugs me) as if you weren't pregnant.

This is what I remember, too.
