I'm seeing more women wearing hats with pretty large brims when out walking - to keep the sun off their face. This is mostly older women concerned with sunspots.

I've never worn hats because I have thick, somewhat coarse and curly hair. When I put a hat on it just mashes it down and then poofs it all out around my face and looks terrible!

Is there any kind of hat that might work in the sun? Do I just need to get a larger hat (for a larger head size) to account for my thick hair? I don't even know if hats for women are sized the way they are for men...help!

Please, send a picture, even backside if don't want to post your face. Thick and curly is very beautiful!

You're best off tying the hair off your face with a headband or lightweight scarf and then putting on the hat, or if it's long enough, pulling it back into a low pony or a braid. As far as what type of hat, that's going to depend more on the shape of your face than what your hair is like. I have an adjustable, roll-up travel visor that I wear sometimes when out walking, and other times I use a good gardening hat that has a chin strap, especially on breezy days. My hair is curly and thick, too, plus I have a large head, so it's hard for me to find a hat that even fits in the first place.

Forgive the obvious question, but have you just gone to a store and tried on twenty hats to see what suits you? I've seen hatted women with curly hair that look great.

My hair is maybe just a bit longer than here but still much too short to tie back. This is my "humid" look after a bit of a hike!

A bigger hat will just slide down too far on your head. Sometimes you just have to pick between hat hair and a sunburn. A ponytail helps, especially if you don't take your hair out of the ponytail until the sweat dries.

If you get a hat that's too tight, it can give you a headache. Also, lots of straw-looking hats are made of paper and don't hold up well to getting sweaty, so read the label before you buy it.

20s-30s

Put "cloche straw hat" into Google & choose shopping. There are many good ones. And since they are straw--great prices. Enjoy.
