Rollers haven't become completely extinct, mostly because straight hair has been the trend. Flat irons are much more popular. That's probably why there's less need for hairspray as well ... if your hair is ironed straight, there's no style to hold.
I'm ready for the straight hair trend to die out ... I recently saw a picture of my niece's sorority, and of 100+ girls, more then 95% of them had the exact same stick straight hairstyle in various colors (mostly, but not exclusively blonde)
Frankly, I'm happy to see young women free to embrace the hair they were born with rather than trying to process it into something it's not. My daughter has healthy, stick straight, natural blonde hair. I would rather she let it be what it is than spend half the morning trying to coax it into a style that requires half a bottle of product to create. As it stands, she wears it long, sometimes putting it up in a ponytail, braid, or bun, depending on what she has planned.
I love my hot rollers, I just don't use them anymore. Well, rarely would be more accurate. It's just one more thing to take up space in my small bathroom. I think they are faster to use than a curling iron, I've always thought that. I hate stick-straight hair so flat irons are not for me. Right now my hair is pretty long (I need to get it chopped off!) so the curling iron is even a longer process in the morning. Maybe after I get it cut Ill pull out the curlers and give them a go. Most days my hair winds up in a ponytail anyway
Yep. They're cone-shaped, generally, versus cylindrical, and require you to either wear a glove and hold each segment of hair against the heated element yourself, or don't wear a glove and burn your hands. Brilliant.
Yes. I thought I would like mine because I've never liked the "crease" that can happen with a curling iron, but I don't like it. That's why I went out and bought hot rollers, and I like them a lot more than curling irons or curling wands.
I still use hot rollers on occasion. They are so much faster than a curling iron and they add lasting volume to my hair for the entire day. DD uses them occasionally as well, just to get a different look.
You can still buy rollers. I've seen hot rollers shown on QVC. I think some people do use them. I suspect that younger women do not use them, or hair spray the way I did when I was young. My stylist asks if I want hairspray after she has styled my hair, so I gather that hair spray is not universally used.
I use hair spray. I experimented with rolling my hair a couple of years ago, and bailed. Besides that time, I haven't rolled my hair in probably 20 years.

Who in the hell came up with that thing anyway. So ridiculous.
Maybe twice a year I curl them or straighten them.
I don't have hair spray since I had short hair and there is currently no blow dryer in my house hold.
I just wash my hair and let it dry. Done.
